split/decision is developing Wormwood, a raw and visceral play by Michael Signer that follows a disgraced, charismatic populist's resurrection and the idealistic teenage heroine who calls out his mob. Set in a fictional city-state consumed by theatrical tribalism, the play blurs the lines between a staged assassination, a public stoning, and a political rally, drawing on influences from Brecht to Sinclair Lewis to Shakespeare to ask whether society can rise above its worst tribal impulses.
Wormwood received strong reviews from the San Francisco Chronicle and the Oakland Tribune at its original staging.
